Description

A 7-segment display is a grouping of seven LEDs that are used to display numbers 0-9. They can also be used to make crude representations of letters if the need arises. The LEDs in this display are wired in a common cathode configuration, meaning that high voltage is supplied to each segment while all segments are wired to a common ground pin. This reduces the number of pins and allows the whole display (one digit) to be turned on or off with a transistor on the common cathode. This makes them very easy to multiplex.
